Sloe vodka
Hello I am new from Belgium
Here we do not have any tradition of sloe liquor and i am i thinck the only one in my neighbourhoud who knows sloeberries They are planted next to the railroad. There are no wild sloes in Flanders anymore.
I try next time to have them sent to me from Poland.
I never tried Sloe gin. I always put them on vodka like Russians do.
Does anybody have experience with rowanberries?

From this month's Waitrose Food Illustrated...Sloe Vodka
450g Sloes
1 litre Vodka
450g Caster Sugar
4 Cloves
Wash and discard and damaged fruit and place in the freezer in a plastic bag. Leave for a day or two until they are frozen solid and start to burst, this saves time having to prick them with a knife.
Defrost and out in a sterilised 2 litre jar or glass bottle. Pour over the vodka and add the sugar and cloves. Shake the container every other day for a month, the occasionally for the next 3 months. After this it can be strained and bottled. Leave it for 6 months to mellow.
Serve as an after dinner liquer or an aperitif over ice...
Note: I'm not one to take issue with Waitrose...but I would skip the freezing bit and cut the sloes. I don't know why they suggest a sterilised glass container...it seems a bit retentive to me
Enjoy!!!
