Cloudiness in sloe Gin - is this a problem?

Post by penny_s » 19 Dec 2012, 15:06

As we had no sloes on our bushes this year, I made some sloe gin with last year's frozen sloes. I also made it for the first time with honey instead of sugar.
As it all marinades, I am noticing some white cloudiness around the berries. Is this safe to drink? And any ideas what is causing it - the frozen sloes? the honey? Something else?

I'd strain or filter it, taste and then drink it, me. The frozen sloes shoudn't affect it, but honey might. I sometimes notice a slightly thicker consistency around the berries in the jar but it's never been a problem.

Good luck and Merry Xmas!

Thanks - I'll try that. I was worried that it might be some kind of fungal thing that is poisonous - but the alcohol would kill germs right?
