Sloes near Newcastle?

Post by Hectorprotector » 13 Sep 2010, 10:46

I am keen to try making sloe gin for the first time this year, and damson too if I find any!

I wonder if anyone would be kind enough to point me in the direction of any wild sloes/damsons for picking in the Newcastle/ South Northumberland area (I liver near Hexham).

Many thanks.

Hello everyone,
I'm aware this is quite an old post I'm replying too but hopefully someone is still around that can help...?!

Having just moved to the area (Ryton, west of Newcastle but working in Sunderland) I was wondering if anyone could pass on a couple of good locations for sloes?

The few bushes I have seen around have been totally lacking any fruit - is it looking like a bad year? Or perhaps those were the wrong sex of bush (if it even works like that?)

Any pointers would be much appreciated. I had some sloe gin from a friend last year and am keen to make some myself this time around.

Cheers, Chris
