Oh if only I had looked at the message board before embarking on my sloe gin! My husband and I thought we would defrost the sloes whilst we took our dog for a walk. To compound matters, I had already put them in a half sized demi-jon. Also, I later noticed that I not bothered to take off all the little bits of stalk before freezing. Needless to say, it took ages to shake the half soggy sloes out of the dami-jon and then I had to take off the bits of stalk and prick them.I still have masses of sloes in the freezer, so will have another go, when I have recovered, and just poor the gin straight on them instead of pricking them. I hope it will all be worth it! Sad to say, there was a little bit of gin left over that would not go in the bottle. Oh well, I suppose I will have to buy a bottle of Tonic!!
