What other spirits do you use for bottling fruit? Exchange recipe ideas here

Hi everyone

Missed the boat last autumn what with 2 hip replacements and moving and all, and offspring cleaning my stock out, so none of those little beauties were picked!!! :(

Nobody I can find on the Forum seems to have done any research and development using dried sloes. Somebody must have tried it.

Blackthorn seems to think its not viable.

Having no other option, I am reduced to attempting it, or lose a year!! :cry:

We can't have that, now, can we????

Just dont go there..I tried dried sloes in 2007 as we had a late frost that year where I live in the UK and no sloes were to be seen anywhere.
I ordered them online, when they arrived they smelled like dried herbs almost oriental in fact, the resulting sloe gin was awful tasted like some old fashioned cough medicine!

Last year we froze 5 pounds and used them later that year..absolutely fine results...I now always have some frozen just in case of another bad year for sloes.

I always freeze my sloes for 24 hours before defrosting and making my sloe gin and vodka.. believe me when I say my Sloe Gin is to die for..delicious is an understatement.

I have just made a total of 5 litres last week.
