Sorry, but it sounds like mould to me, probably from handling the sloes again after washing. I don`t bother pricking them after freezing, smash them in the bag while frozen against the garage wall or with heavy wooded rolling pin or mallet and put them in the container frozen and pour the gin on top...

1.5L sterilised jar/bottle. Half fill with Gin soaked Sloes and fill up with decent Medium Sherry. Leave for 3/4 months shaking daily for first 3 weeks. Add a little sugar at end if too tart. Great in the summer 50/50 tonic water and ice, even better neat with ice

Last year I did the following with my Sloes, all recipies from this website except one.
