Apart from the usual hedgerows, any kind of open space is likely to have sloes. We live in a city, next to Asda is a field surrounded by hedging where people walk their dogs, its a kind of through way from a housing estate. The field is quite large and is bordered on all sides by sloes and hawthorn....

I think a third sounds right. I was told a third sloes, a third sugar and the rest, gin.

Hiya, yes - to make boozy chocolates. I'll probably use fair trade choc and give them to the same person I'm giving sloe gin to for Christmas.

To be honest, they've been in nearly every hedgerow I've looked at. You could find its too late to pick them now.

1995! BLimey, I didnt get onto the net until 2001.

Good idea though, I'd never even seen a sloe until this year when I started to get into foraging for wild fruits and berries.

Nice that all the info is in one place. :)

Quick tip for sloe chocs

Use an ice cube tray, put a couple of sloes in and cover with melted chocolate. Put in fridge to set.

If anyone wants a cherry/olive stoner, TK Maxx sell them for around £7.99. Dont think I will need one but saw them there last week.

Sorry no-one answered, I would have thought you could still use the split ones. What a shame it took so long, were they sent from the UK?

I read somewhere that the good gin was wasted on sloe gin as the sloes and sugar alter the taste so much it doesnt matter.

I used cheap gin from Tesco but would be interested in others opinions about using Bombay Sapphire etc.
