Re: Are the Sloes a bit scarce this year everywhere?

I'm in Essex, (near Rayleigh) and the sloes appear fine around here, quite large and plump looking. :)

Re: Apple Gin / Vodka??

Hi Looby Loo, Unfortunately I don't have a recipe for apple gin, but I would say that maybe you could try and adapt the Sloe Gin recipe and with a little trial and error, (enjoy the error as much as the trial - :) ) you may just come up trumps with a respectable apple gin/vodka recipe. I'd say it's ...

Re: Rosehip Gin/Brandy???

Hi Frosty, Apologies to you and anyone else reading this re. Rosehip Gin/Brandy, I suffered a shoulder injury last July, (2008), and have been out of action so to speak for quite a long while - Ho Hum!!! In response to your post, due to this I unfortunately didn't get around to trying out the Gin / ...

Rosehip Gin/Brandy???

Hello all, I've been extremely bad and haven't visited the Sloe.Biz site since the beginning of Sept. last year - very naughty of me - still I've been supping the Sloe Gin and Damson Brandy during the interim! :D I've been thinking about this for a while and was wondering what other peoples views ar...

Hi vholmes, A little late replying, but... I recently moved out of Dagenham, (to a sloe rich area :D ), but prior to that a friend of mine used to provide me with sloes which they informed me they had picked over at Hainault Forest Country Park, not a million miles from the RM8 area, (easily accessi...

Mmmm, I'll give it a go and see - trial and error I guess, but I'm sure it'll turn out okay - I look forward to trying it. Many thanks, Sloe-ly Does It!

Hi barneyg01, I'm relatively new to all this myself, but after browsing the forum I'd say give it a go and use the sloes. If you look under the "Sloe Gin Recipe" and "Sloes picked too early" it would appear to answer your ripening question. Others appear to have used their early picked sloes to make...

Hi Shinobi,

Using the sloes from the gin for the brandy sounds good, you say you left them in the gin a bit longer, how much longer if you don't mind me asking? Also after you've transferred them to the brandy, how long do you then leave them in there? Sloe-ly Does It! :D

Hi Shinobi,

Many thanks for the info, I had visions of my kitchen being cluttered up with bottles - into the garage they shall go - the car can sit in the road for a few months! Can't wait to pick those sloes. Sloe-ly Does It!

Is there a correct temperature?

Hi everyone, I'm relative new to this having only made sloe gin for the past couple of years, but I was wondering whether different temperatures can affect the outcome? Apologies if this query has been posted before, but I've recently moved house and don't have enough room to store the glass jars / ...

Sorry  I should have stated for anyone who is interested in the Damson Brandy that I simply used the Sloe Gin recipe but swapped the Sloes with Damsons and the Gin with Brandy. Sloe-ly Does It!

Damson Brandy

The other year I made some Damson Brandy - it was very, very smooth and rather more-ish, it didn't last long at all especially as my mother had great fun in helping me finish it off, we also used the 'pickled' damsons as a Christmas dessert served with cream - one for the adults only! :D

10 year old sloe gin verses 18 month old.

Hi everyone, I'm new to the forum, but think the information you guys are exchanging is great. I've got a query though after reading about the "10 year old sloe gin" and the danger it poses with the sloes left in. I wondered if it would be safe to drink some sloe gin that I made about 18 months ago,...
