Re: Chutney - using gin-soaked sloes

Hi, Did we ever get feedback as to how this turned out - it would be useful to know. Did anyone else try making it?

Damson jelly

Hi, I'm not sure if this is the right section for this posting, or whether anyone has raised this topic before, butI need to pick some brains! After I bottled my damson gin this year I decided to see if I could make damson jelly with the gin-soaked damsons. The idea was to make something that would ...

Re: This year's fruit

This year's report from the Welsh Marches. Despite being able to bath in damsons last summer I'm pleased to report that, on my trees at least, there appears to be an abundance of small green fruit coming through the faded blossom! http://www.sloe.biz/pip/posting.php?mode=reply&f=4&t=554&sid=949f0334...

This year's fruit

You'll all be pleased to know that here on the Shropshire/Herefordshire borders the damsons and bullaces are coming along nicely. We don't have a lot of blackthorn bushes about, so I don't know about them, but I guess it could be a good year....!

Re: Will 2008 be a bad year for the blackthorn?

I have visited my usual haunts for both sloes and bullaces - they and also the damsons in our garden are virtually nonexistent. This is Shropshire/Herefordshire borders.

Bottles as gifts

I am hoping to pick brains here!, so.....I am in the process of making a large quantity of damson gin at the moment, with the intention of giving some of it away as Christmas presents. Other than using bottles that I have collected myself, does anyone have a source of smallish bottles - perhaps in a...

Artificial sweetener

I realise that this question may be greeted by a collective sharp indrawing of breath.....! but, here goes! I am diabetic, but for some years now I have been making sloe/bullace/damson gin using ordinary sugar. Has anyone ever used artificial sweetener of some sort, such as Canderel? If so, what was...

meeow,

sorry I took so long to get back - I've been away!
This morning I collected a large quantity of hazelnuts - all off the ground under the trees, so I guess they're still there if you look hard enough.
Good hunting,

Hazelnut Liqueur

Has anyone tried making any liqueur-type drinks using hazelnuts? If so, what, and was it successful?
