Re: Filtering - impossible?!

Coffee filters are too fine, get eaten a bit by alcohol, you want to use Muslin, or at a push a tea towel, that plenty fine enough and won't get clogged.

Re: Sloe Gin flavoured with Meadowsweet anyone?

In Germany they use meadowsweet to make a flavoured sugar. Should work fine, I'd dry the meadowsweet.

Re: Violets

Yeah that's a nice idea, I give last years sloe gin for this years presents to make it worth having.

I've not seen that stuff outside of France much at all, I have a 2/3 bottle left in my "collection"
which only comes out at Xmas or randomly. Lol

Re: mullberries

Mulberries aren't a wild species in the UK so they either escapees or they are in a garden/national trust place.

Mulberries are blooming delicious, I'd do a mulberry vodka if I were you or just make jam.

Re: Violets

It's so expensive because it uses genuine violet oil, it's a neutral base spirit with a smaller proportion of Armagnac added to it. It's very regional in France quite rare and not widely exported, hence the price.

Just thinking of infused in alcohol would make a nice aniseed flavour.

Re: freezing sloes to make them split

Sloes don't get that big. It'll be some sort of hybrid prunus variety, and some sloes do become edible raw late on, usually November, but never that tasty really.

Re: Sloe Ripeness

I've done a batch picked end of sept and now got my eye on a local patch that are still tart but not as astringent, I'm hoping to pick on my bday (9th nov) will see if they are any sweeter by then, keeping my eyes in case they start to be eaten by birds etc if so I'll pick before
