Re: Cranberry Vodka

Raspberry vodka is also good, but just watch the sugar as it can be a bit too sweet if one is not careful.

Re: Cranberry Vodka

I don't think that is strictly true. For example, I can't taste any difference when using cheap gin or expensive gin when making sloe gin. I think it is more to do with the alcohol content, which is the main catalyst in getting the flavour out of the fruit.

Re: almonds

Some friends added some almonds and their gin and it was very tasty, although I couldn't really taste the almond over the gin, sloes and sugar.

I have heard about this from other sources. Do you think it adds a lot to the taste?

Re: Just started my sloe gin

In my opinion, there is a huge difference in flavour of the gin depending on the length you leave you sloes in. I would suggest that 3 months is the minimum time!

Re: Cranberry Vodka

Mine turned out very well. However, I would suggest that you leave the cranberries in for as long as possible (at least 3 months). I left mine in for 6 months and the result was a refreshing drink with a lovely deep red colour!

Well then the lemon might work, as essentially you are extracting the same oils. Could you post your orangecello(?) recipe on here?

Cheers!

The only downside is that you need pure alcohol (apparently using weaker alcohol doesn't get the flavour out of the lemon rind).

Are we allowed to swear in the forum??? I have tried one of my bottles of cranberry vodka that I made with VODKAT (http://www.vodkats.com/) that I bought in ASDA. I just wanted to let you all know that VODKAT is a dirty scam - it's only 22%!!! Here was me thinking that I was buying cheap vodka (the ...

I prick my sloes with a fork. My friends used the freezing method and their gin is not as flavoursome or colourful as mine. So therefore I think it's worth spending a little time pricking them individually!!! I found it to be quite relaxing; sit yourself down in front of the TV with a couple of bowl...
